 Progesterone is a sex hormone produced primarily in the female ovaries, primarily in the corpus luteum after ovulation. It is also produced in small amounts in the adrenal glands of both sexes and in the placenta during pregnancy. Men also produce small amounts of progesterone in the testes and adrenal glands.
 Woman
 If a pregnancy actually occurs, it ensures its continuation. For example, progesterone prevents the uterus from contracting and expelling the embryo. It also prepares the mammary gland for milk production and release and permanently increases basal body temperature.
 Man
 Progesterone is synthesized in the male testes. It influences the immune system, the prostate, the central and peripheral nervous systems, and interacts with adipose tissue. An important benefit of progesterone in men is the lowering of insulin levels.
